TANAGRA is an idyllic wine farm close to McGregor and part of the Robertson Wine Route and Route 62. We offer comfortable accommodation in well appointed guest cottages and produce handcrafted wines in a boutique wine cellar and stylish Grappa and Eau de Vie in our boutique distillery.

Tanagra Wine & Guest Farm Accommodation
Tanagra offers 6 self-catering apartments and cottages, some situated at the main farm, close to the historic homestead (Garden cottage, Loft studio, Bottlebrush, Gumtree), with a swimming pool in the garden, others are tucked away in the wild fynbos of the surrounding hills (Hill cottage, Faraway), with private plunge pools.

All units have been carefully restored and tastefully furnished with the intention of providing a naturally elegant and stylish, yet authentic farm ambience. All boast scenic views on the mountains and/or the beautiful farm dam from private verandahs. There is a pool and sun/deck loungers/chairs in the garden (private plunge pools at Hill cottage and Faraway). For the more adventurous the majestic farm dam invites you for a swim.
Accommodation units are let on a self-catering basis. There's a variety of lovely restaurants in McGregor (5 minutes) who cater for breakfast, lunch and dinner. One restaurant (at the Donkey Sanctuary) is in walking distance.
Guests have the choice between keeping privately to themselves (all units secure your privacy) or joining each other in the garden (and/or winery).

Tanagra Wines & Spirits
At Tanagra we produce handcrafted and environmentally friendly wines as well as a very exclusive and European-style spirits (Grappa & Eau de Vie). Our wines are typical for the fynbos-scented terroir here at the border of the Klein Karoo. Our vineyards are small blocks and more than 20 years old, all certified as 'Single Vineyards'. They sit right next to Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve, surrounded by wild fynbos and succulent Karoo, and create highly aromatic wines.
We use traditional methods like natural yeast and whole berry fermentation and mature our wines in neutral vessels. All this helps to retain the natural & distinct character of our single vineyard wines. Likewise, our vineyard mangagement is minimally invasive – we use as much as possible organic components like mulching, compost, organic fertilizer and cover crop and don't use herbicides, helping to retain the biodiversity of our farm. Most of the farm is put under nature conservation and Tanagra has been selected as a 'Conservation Champion' by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
In the distillery we combine German technology and know-how and only the best South African base products to produce stylish Marc (what the Italians call Grappa), Eau de Vie (Fruit Spirit and Hefebrand) and an Orange Liqueur.
Our motto is 'klein aber fein' (German for 'small and exquisite'). Not industrially made mass products but handcrafted wines and spirits made with passion and care and only from the best and freshest local products.
Come and visit us for a unique and personal wine tasting or grappa tasting experience at Tanagra. Our philosophy is to personally introduce visitors to the farm, the winery and the Tanagra wines (and Grappa, for those interested) and we regard tastings as encounters rather than standardized procedures. The distillery is always an interesting visit. We are open for tastings and sales by appointment, so please feel welcome to contact us for an appointment.
